Manchester United have emerged as strong favourites to land a prolific Bundesliga striker, while a Germany star has ruled out a summer Premier League switch, all in the Monday papers.
MAN UTD FAVOURITES TO LAND LEWANDOWSKI
Manchester United have moved to the front of the queue in the race to sign Robert Lewandowski, according to reports on Monday. The Bayern Munich star has been tipped to quit the Bundesliga giants this summer after dropping his agent of 10 years, Cezary Kucharski, in February and replacing him with renowned transfer broker Pini Zahavi.
Both Real Madrid and Chelsea are said to be monitoring the 29-year-old Poland international’s situation but German magazine Kicker claims that the Red Devils are the only club to have actually made a move for the player.
However, former Germany defender Christoph Metzelder, who spent three years at Real, still believes a deal is unlikely to happen and reports suggest that United’s links to the player are mainly to bump up his price if Bayern do indeed opt to sell.
Lewandowski has scored an impressive 32 goals for Bayern this season and has a contract with the club until 2021.
