Jose Mourinho has been tipped to quit Manchester United if the club does not sign his top two transfer targets this summer.
The Portuguese tactician has already spent close to £300million during his time at Old Trafford, splashing out £89m on Paul Pogba, £75m on Romelu Lukaku and snaring Alexis Sanchez in a swap deal.
But Mourinho believes the club needs to spend big again this summer in order to close the gap on rivals Manchester City, who have run away with the Premier League title this season.
“Manchester City buy full-backs for the price of strikers,” Mourinho said earlier this season, before claiming that the £300m spent by United over two years under him was “not enough”.
The Daily Mirror claims that PSG are monitoring Mourinho’s situation, with Unai Emery being tipped for the axe at the end of the season.
Mourinho only recently extended his stay with United until 2020 and although he has been told he can spend again this summer, the report goes on to state that if he does not land his top two targets then he could be off.
Those two names are believed to be Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale and Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri.
Bale has long been linked with a switch to Old Trafford and is valued at between £80-90m, while Seri, who missed out on a switch to Barcelona last summer, would only cost £35m – an absolute bargain in today’s market.
Despite being backed financially again, the report adds that United will not stump up the huge amounts they have in the past and that Mourinho may have to settle for cheaper options – news that will potentially see the former Real Madrid chief walk away.
